Using Nemis

Last updated 15 August 2026.

Nemis is an assistant that runs on your Mac, reads what you connect it to, and acts when you ask. This page is about what that means in practice: what Nemis will and will not do on its own, where your judgement is still required, and what you agree to by using it.

Nemis acts on your behalf, and asks first

Nemis can read your mail and calendar, keep notes on the people you work with, and use tools you connect. Anything that leaves your Mac or changes something shared, sending a message, creating an event, running a tool that writes, is proposed to you first and waits for a real answer from you.

That confirmation is the point at which responsibility passes to you. Read what it is about to do before you approve it. Nemis will not send anything on your behalf that you have not seen.

It will sometimes be wrong

Nemis answers using a language model, and language models make mistakes. It can misread a date, miss a message in a long thread, misattribute something to the wrong person, or summarise a document inaccurately and confidently.

Do not rely on Nemis alone for anything that matters. Check the original before acting on a deadline, an invoice, a payment, a contract, or anything medical or legal. Treat it as a capable assistant whose work you would still glance over, because that is what it is.

Sensitive information, and your judgement about it

Nemis reads whatever you connect it to, which means it can end up holding things you would not have chosen to give it: passwords sent by email, bank details, medical results, legal correspondence, information about other people who never agreed to any of this.

Use it with sensitive material deliberately, not by default. Before connecting a mailbox, consider what is in it. Nemis lets you mark people and notes as private or secret, which keeps them out of anything sent to a model provider, and lets you turn off sending personal context entirely. Those controls only help if you use them.

Two things worth knowing before you decide. Anything sent to a cloud model provider leaves your machine and lands under their terms, which is why the setting exists. And if you work in a regulated field, handling client or patient information, Nemis has not been assessed against those regimes and no compliance claim is made for it.

Backups are yours

Everything Nemis stores is a set of files on your Mac. If that disk fails, if the files are deleted, or if something goes wrong during an update, what was in them is gone unless you have a backup. Nemis keeps no copy anywhere else, because keeping one would mean holding your data on a server, which is the thing it does not do.

Keep Time Machine on, or back up ~/Library/Application Support/Nemis the way you back up anything else you would be sorry to lose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss of or damage to your data, however it happens.

What you should not do with it

Do not use Nemis to break the law, to access an account you are not entitled to, to harass anyone, or to process other people's personal information in ways they have not agreed to. If you connect a work mailbox, that is between you and your employer; check you are allowed to.

Do not try to remove the parts of Nemis that ask you to confirm actions, and do not resell it or share your licence key.

Your data stays yours

Everything Nemis stores lives on your Mac and belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it and we do not receive it. If you stop using Nemis, or a licence lapses, nothing is deleted, locked or held: your people, your notes, your conversations and your history remain readable and exportable.

The privacy policy lists the short set of things that do leave your machine, and who receives them.

Services you connect

Nemis talks to services you choose: an AI provider such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Google, your mail provider, and any tool servers you configure. Those have their own terms and their own privacy policies, and what they do with what you send them is between you and them. Nemis uses your own API key, so the costs you run up with a provider are yours.

Choose Apple's on-device model or a local one, and nothing is sent anywhere at all.

Apple changes things

Nemis is built on macOS and iOS, and Apple changes both. A system update can alter or withdraw the interfaces Nemis relies on to read your mail, watch your calendar, run in the menu bar, or talk to your phone. Features that work today can stop working after an update we had no notice of and no say in.

When that happens we will fix it as quickly as we reasonably can, and say so while it is broken rather than leaving you to guess. But we are not liable for a feature breaking, being withdrawn, or behaving differently because Apple changed the platform underneath it, and a change of that kind is not a defect in Nemis.

The same applies to the other services Nemis connects to. If a provider changes its API, its pricing or its terms, or stops offering something, that is outside our control.

No warranty

Nemis is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. It is not guaranteed to be available, accurate, or free of faults.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost or corrupted data, or business interruption, arising from your use of Nemis. This includes data loss caused by a fault in Nemis itself. Our total liability is limited to what you paid for Nemis in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

Stopping

You can stop using Nemis at any time by deleting it. Your data is in ~/Library/Application Support/Nemis and goes when you remove it, not before.

We may withdraw your right to use Nemis if you seriously break these terms and do not put it right within 30 days of being told.

Changes

These terms may change. Anything material will be shown to you in the app before it takes effect, rather than quietly updated on a page nobody revisits.

Nemis is made by Metanlytics LLC, and this agreement is with that company. Governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law rules; if you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protections of your local law.
